Song 91: Local powerhouse

Time of Death” by Jennifer Hall

Elaina: Jenn is an extremely talented singer/songwriter native to Chicago and a good friend of mine. We met a few years ago (she had rescued a dog that then became mine!) and after seeing her album release show at SubT I was HOOKED. I included a link to her recorded album online but also to a video of her live performance of a different song because to me, her recorded album doesn’t do her voice and vocal range justice. “Time of Death” is about asking a partner to stay with her while she struggles with a major loss (in this case the death of her mother). As a fellow member of the dead mom club, hearing Jenn speak about the specific meaning of this song helped me fully connect to why this song resonates so strongly for me.

Make sure to catch Jenn if she’s touring near you, you won’t regret it!

5songpjct: Thank you for introducing me to her. I was so bummed I missed her by two days when I was in New York recently. She really has an amazing voice and she sounds like she sings with her entire body. I would love for her to participate in this project. I want to figure out where that sound comes from.

Elaina: I’m sure she would love to participate!!

NEXT UP…a man with many names.
