“Eternal Flame” the Bangles
Phong: The funny thing about being the younger sibling is that particular age where you don’t really have your own stuff besides like toys, but your older sister had many fancy things. (I never did get a pager.) And thus eventually you would rationalize that as long as she wasn’t in the room, her stuff would be your stuff. That included her books, her art supplies, her tape stereo, her CD player, and her music collection. For the most part, I passed on many of them. Celine Dion was a no, Boyz II Men were fine, Roxette had their moments. For some reason though, the Bangles stuck. Stuck hard. I pretty much loved every track off their greatest hits. Specifically “Eternal Flame.” It was a bit slow for my usual taste, but I swore she was singing just to me. It stirred…feelings.
NEXT UP, one of the best musical collaborations of all time.
