Song 53: Paris, France 2004

All We Have is Now” by The Flaming Lips

Written by Teresa

Another song that brings me back to France, but in a different way. This is a song that was on a mixed CD that my boyfriend-now-husband made for me and mailed to Paris where I was studying abroad for a semester junior year. I didn’t remember having heard it before (although this album came out in 2002 so I probably had) and it broke my heart – which was already feeling pretty sore as I missed him terribly when I was there. Pretty much all the songs on the mixed CD had this morose quality about them and I interpreted every line as if it were a love letter (break up letter?) written directly to me from him. Some of the other songs on the CD were “50 ways to leave your lover “(by Paul Simon) and “Car “(by Built to Spill).  It was all very intense, but I think that time very far apart really helped me understand that I wanted to be with him, for the long haul. It’s not that I didn’t enjoy all that Paris had to offer, but he wasn’t there so I had a hard time being fully present.
