Song 34: Couples who dance on stage together stay together

Names: Mickey + Keely

Relationship: Married

Song: “Ice of Boston

If there is any band that Keely and I share deeply, it is our love for the Dismemberment Plan. Our first date was at a Dismemberment Plan show and I think we have seen them about six times so far. They have figured prominently on our social calendar when they were in town. Seeing them live was awesome and we’d always dance onstage with them during the song “Ice of Boston,” a band tradition at every show. Video below.

They did their farewell tour in the mid-2000s and we went and talked to them and told them that we had our first date at one of their concerts and that we were getting married. Not only are they one of my favorite bands, but Keely and I shared so much around their music. That is a lot more personal than saying we danced to one of their songs at our wedding,

5songpjct: Was that your first dance to one of their songs?

Mickey: No. Our first dance song was Elton John “Tiny Dancer” and that has to do with our love of the movie Almost Famous. That song was prominently featured in that movie and the song felt like it matched with our young romance at that time. It isn’t a bad choice and it is unabashedly cheesy. There is that side of me which loves piano cheese to no end.

ON SUNDAY we continue our musical journey with Mickey.
