Song 25: Songs That Are Full of Memories

Respect” by Aretha Franklin

Written by Amanda

I have fond memories of riding with my Mom in the car, when I was about 8 years old, listening to the oldies station and singing at the top of my lungs with my Mom in her old gray Honda Accord. I’d belt out the old hits of The Beatles, The Carpenters, Turtles, and most memorably, trying to match the sassy fire of Aretha Franklin’s vocals in “Respect.” These were my first musical memories. My mother played a huge part in what I ended up loving today. These car rides were the beginning of a lifetime of singing in the shower, and searching endlessly for more and more music that felt as good as that incredibly special music played inside that old car. I feel lucky to have been exposed to such influential, strong artists such as Ms. Franklin, and at such a young age. I’d definitely consider this track number one in the soundtrack of my childhood.

THANK YOU Amanda for your theme this week. It resonated with me in more ways than one. On Sunday I talk to my sister.
