Song 11: Something positive out of something negative

No One Lives Forever” by Oingo Boingo.

Kelley: My Ex-Fiance, who was a crazy dude.

5songproject: Sorry for the interruption. Do you mean crazy fun or crazy not right?

Kelley: Crazy, not right. Just to give you some background, we had both worked in film and met on a film set. Two weeks later he moved in to my apartment and two months after that we got engaged. He was eleven years older than me and I was twenty-one. Making him… 32? Yes. The first six months were fine, then the constant physical abuse started.

He introduced Oingo Boingo to me in during our relationship, which took place in 2005. That was his only good contribution to my life. After a year together total and an additional 50lbs to my waistline, I left him and Oingo Boingo became a huge part of my exercise routine to get back to myself. I listened to them a lot while I was making those changes in my life. I wasn’t about to have this awesome band that I now loved, be tarnished with the memory of a bad dude. Fast forward to a few months later, I lost all of that extra weight plus a few extra pounds. Oingo Boingo for the win.

5songproject: Was there a particular reason you chose “No One Lives Forever”?

Kelley: This song is probably my favorite. I just love the beat and I mean, let’s face it, no one really lives forever. This was my favorite song to get my workout started, because of its horn section. I also wanted to change the music we listened to to something positive. Oingo Boingo is a great band and I wanted them to remain positive.
